What would be better……a pain management clinic or a family doctor?
I am 35 yrs old and 14 yrs ago i dropped 3,000 lbs of steel on my left foot. It crushed the bones in the top of my foot and squished the nerves in my foot also. I guess i'm getting older cause after getting over my injury it didn't bother me but for the past 3 years i have had tremendous pain in that foot. I have a great family doctor who gives me an injection once a month and a prescription for lorcet 7.5....which help when i'm in pain. The only problem is he doesn't give me enough to get through the month. I have discussed this with him and he said he didn't feel comfortable in changing to a higher dose or increasing the amount. I have a new insurance plan and i don't need a referral to go see another doctor. I buy my pain med. at a pharmacy without using my insurance so nobody knows or there is no record of me getting these. What doctor should i see to get something else for pain......a pain management doctor or another family physician. i'm looking for help not just pills.

PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINIC is the answer. They focus on ur pain, and do have interventions in order to help you live a much better quality of life. Their goal is for their patients to be comfortable. I am a Pain Management Patient- Have been for 3 years plus. I have chronic pain issues due to an injury over 20 years ago. They offer so much to help out. They also are less apt to be afraid to give you higher doses of medications. PLEASE go the the Pain Clinic- You’ll never regret it!
Pain management Dr would probably be most effective. They are more willing to give the higher doses and or drug combinations because that is what they specialize in. Best of luck.
Go to a pain management clinic. you may be able to get a pump that you use yourself to combat the pain with a catheter into a vein…..and no you cannot overdose with one. Noone needs to be in that amount of pain. Good Luck
Foods are medicine. I recommend checking a nutrition store for some literature that has ideas. The library can help too.Or try the web. Vitamin C is a good anti-inflammatory and can help relieve pain. You may have to take it to bowel tolerance at first to see if it has any effect. Some bone and cartilage rebuilding supplements may help too. These things take some time so be prepared to give it a few months. Also prayer is a proven resource. Find a group of believers to help you with this. God is not limited on healing issues. One solution is given in James chapter 1.
As you know, Pain Management will do nothing but have you walking around like a zombie from meds. However, your PCP can’t do anything about your pain without the use of meds. It’s basically up to you on what you want as far as treatment for your pain. PM and PCPs can only treat you with your consent, therefore their hands are tied.
As you can clearly see, your dilemma isn’t easy to resolve.
You can try other doctors and PM doctors, however, in the end, you must be willing to try what they have to offer. Perhaps there’s a procedure that might help reduce/eliminate the pain in your foot. Giving another doctor or PM a try might be a good idea.
I wish you the best of luck.
If you do not need the referral, what are you waiting for? Doctors at pain clinics can work wonders! I don’t think pain clinics get the credit they deserve. I know a number of people who would not even be walking today if it were not for the great treatment they were receiving at pain clinics. And you are right; it isn’t always about getting more drugs. There are other options and treatments for chronic pain. I would find a reputable pain clinic near you and make the call today. What have you got to lose? Except pain!!!
You are definitely at the point where Pain management physician is necessary. I cant believe your dr- — they just get flacky about abuse — but in your case more meds ARE NECESSARY!
GO TO PAIN MANAGEMENT AND PLEASE USE YOUR INSURANCE- it is much to expensive to be taking care of on your own
These dr will make you feel much better and give you the medication needed for the miserable pain you are in and deserve to have treated.
You are mistaken about the "record’ the pharmacy has to document everything-and if you are open and upfront with the dr and not sneaky – you will have a better -dr-patient relationship…and he will not hesitate to increase.
I have been going to a PM dr for 20 yrs and feel that I have received the best care… probably have gotten more then I needed. The stim was the best thing that ever happened to me!
Please consider the Pain Management and I wish you all the best- report back and let us know how u are doing-OK
Do you have a diagnosis? I would certainly suggest going to a pain management doctor. A spinal cord stimulator may be a possibility of a pain management therapy for you that you could talk to the pain doctor about. I’ve had mine and it has helped me a ton with my leg pain from RSD/CRPS. Good luck!
