is there any thing i can do for him in the way of pain management? i can't put him on a heating pad because it's 90 degrees where we live so i have him in the bedroom where it's air conditioned. he is a german shepard so i'm sure he's really hot in all that fur. is there anything i can do for him right now without a trip to the vet?

I have a 5 year old 90 lb dog that has arthritis in his back legs. I was wondering what over-the-counter human medicine and dosage I can give him for the pain. I am not able to take him to the vet at this time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My guinea pig chocolate is very old, and has really bad arthritis in her feet/ankle joints. This is what the vet told me a couple months ago, when she started to drag her feet and not walk properly. She never really told me how to help her, but she was happy and walking around okay.
In the past couple of days chocolate seems very unhappy
will hardly eat, and can't seem to walk.
When i pet her she does not purr and seems to be in pain.
Is there anything I can do to help her?
I read that Potters Tabritis tablets help, has anyone use that?
Or is my only option to put her down?
She refuses to eat or drink anything.

How much are arthritis meds for pets/dogs?

My almost 10 yo choc lab needs something for arthritis. Vet suggested Rhymidal (sp) but I've read a lot on here about Deramaxx. What is the average cost of these meds per month?
Thanks!

What are the early signs of arthritis in a cat?

I can feel my cat Smudge's hip bones through her short fur, but she seems to not be stiff or anything like that. However, my cat's hip bones are becoming more and more prominently felt whenever I pet her and Smudge is a 14 year old shorthaired cat who's going to be 15 in June of this year. She doesn't seem to be in any pain when she's petted, but I'm concerned that her hip bones becoming more and more easily prominently felt may be a sign of arthritis. Is this reason enough for my concern for my cat? Smudge's eating okay and also doesn't seem to be losing any weight lately, but she's 8 pounds, which is the proper weight for a cat her size, according to the vet.

My pups were just spayed/neutered. The vet prescribed torbagesic 2x daily, but everything I've read indicates it's only good for an hour or two before pain returns. I have hycodan left over from another dog, and I wondered if I might be able to split the 5mg tab in 1/2 or 1/4 for better pain management in my suffering pups. Any words of wisdom out there?

I have a 9 year old Rottweiler (named Belle) who is having some trouble with arthritis. She is becoming more stiff as the nights get colder, I'm doing what I can for her. I let her sleep on my bed, and on the couch when she's in the living room. I am also giving her Bayer Asprin (I asked my vet about the appropriate dose), but she is still limping a bit through out the day. Is there anything else I can do the ease her arhritis pain without having to put her on a perscription medication?

My 10 yr old yellow lab was just diagnosed with arthritis. She's absolutely fine, most of the time, runs, swims, etc. But, she has days, when she can not put any weight on her right front paw. The Vet gave me medacam, and that works very well. But is there anything else I can do for her?
She is at her normal weight, about 62 pounds, she is definitely not over-weight. She swims in the pool daily (usually several times, even when the leg acts up). I do give her glucosamine supplements (in honey). I'm interested in the magnetic therapy, do they make small mattress pads for dog beds?
She;s definitely not overweight, and I dont think she did anything to the paw, because it hurt initially, but then was absolutely fine for about a month, and then back to holding it in the air. I was really beginning to think the arthritis diagnosis was not right, until she started limping on it again...I'm not that familiar with arthritis, is that how it is, comes and goes?
