Is hycodan ever used for pain management in post-op puppies?

My pups were just spayed/neutered. The vet prescribed torbagesic 2x daily, but everything I've read indicates it's only good for an hour or two before pain returns. I have hycodan left over from another dog, and I wondered if I might be able to split the 5mg tab in 1/2 or 1/4 for better pain management in my suffering pups. Any words of wisdom out there?

Well Hydrocodone isn’t really ever used for pain managements in animals, it’s usually used as a cough suppressant! I would advise against using it as a way of pain management for just spayed animals.. If you notice your animal acting too painful (especially if it was neutered and not spayed) You will want to call the vet immediately because there could be a secondary infection setting in. Most animals actually aren’t in extensive amounts of pain, most fully recover in approximately a week, waiting two weeks before they return to full activity levels.. I’ve never actually used torbagesic, we usually send home metacam, rimadyl, or deramaxx.
use the pain meds your vet prescribed for your puppies, not for your other dog.
Wow.. Is your vet some sort of butcher or something ?? We get puppies neutered/spayed.. Our vet doesn’t give them anything for pain, other than the shot he gives just prior to surgery. Our guys come home and are perfectly fine.. No pain, no suffering no problems at all. Your dog shouldn’t need anything at all for pain.. Let alone Hycodan or anything like that.. They aren’t suffering, or in pain.. That pain medication is for you.. cause the vet knows people think that their dog is suffering and he makes a good buck selling you medication to ease your mind.. Puppies don’t need anything for pain after spay/neuter.. Adults don’t either.. We have never given our dogs anything for pain after spaying /neutering and they don’t suffer in pain.. I wouldn’t want that stuff in my dog’s system.
