What is the difference between regular and buffered aspirin and what should I give my 12 year old dog. I can't afford something like rimadil.

With regard to arthritis, yes, aspirin can be used, but with caution and under veterinary supervision. Aspirin is in a class of drugs called NSAIDs – Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, and dogs are particularly sensitive to the gastrointestinal effects of; pain, bleeding, and ulceration that can be a side effect of these drugs. Coated aspirin may help with the gastrointestinal effects.
Aspirin may cause birth defects, so it should not be given to pregnant animals.
Aspirin can be given with food, 1-2 times a day. Check with your veterinarian about proper dosing for your dog, and if it is the best drug for your dog. Glucosamine/chondroitin supplements are another alternative for arthritic pets and may be used alone or with other therapies. All the very best xx
No, aspirin is toxic to dogs.
Don’t give him a whole one. Try about 1/4th first and see if it helps.
asprin for dogs r u nuts
NO!!!!! Get him some glucosamine condrointant supplements for him if he is arthritic. Don’t EVER give a dog asprin.
Why not speak to a vet? There are quite a few charity vets who would help you. I don’t think aspirin will help him, but only make the situation worse.
Call the vet just to ask this question. They won’t charge you for asking a question.
Ok so i did a little research online about this because i was curios about this too. here is a website with some good info about your question on it. http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/altvetmedgeneral/a/dogcataspirin.htm
also im sure you could call your vet just to be sure, to call is free, it cant hurt to ask. and you could ask them what dosage would be safe to. I hope your dog feels better!
Here is an article that will help answer you question:
http://www.school-for-champions.com/animalhealth/aspirin.htm
It tells you how to figure out the proper dosage for your dog.
no no no.. u will kill your dog either you need to save money to take your dog to the vet or he needs to suffer, im sorry but a 12 year old dog is going to have pain and human drugs will kill the dog so if you are going to give him aspirin just have him put down so he will die painlessly rathger than being poisoned
These people that are saying aspirin is toxic for dogs don’t know what they are talking about. You can give a dog aspirin for pain, but you cant do it without talking to your vet first to get the proper dosage for his weight.
It’s not toxic and its perfectly safe given in the right dosage.
Vets will give aspirin for pain. Dogs going through heart worm treatment take aspirin twice a day to thin their blood and help the heart worms break up and pass through safely.
We don’t use baby aspirin.
Ibuprofen IS TOXIC for dogs.
You can give dogs buffered aspirin, but obviously not long-term and this would only be a band-aid solution.
Regardless of cost (sorry I don’t accept this as an excuse – there are always ways to find the money and there are also places that will help with costs, if you are that badly off), you need to get your elderly dog properly assessed, and an accurate diagnosis as to his situation made, so you can make some decisions. It might, at this point, be a kindness to end his pain – all elderly dogs deserve to spend their final time pain-free.
With a vet’s approval you may be able to give the dog baby aspirin only. don’t do it without consulting your vet first.
Our vet recommended aspirin for our yellow lab. In fact, aspirin was the ONLY human medication he recommended. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are both bad for dogs.
