I am in Pain management and do get a prescription each month, but not all doctors are willing to prescribe narcotics and it always depends on what the reason for your pain is. If you do not have imaging tests such as x-rays, MRI's, CT scans, or an official diagnosis like Cancer or Lupus to support your pain claim, they are more than likely going to send you out for more testing. Plus, sometimes, pain medication is not the appropriate treatment. For example, no pain management doctor is going to prescribe a narcotic to treat migraines since they can cause some pretty nasty rebound headaches and only make the issue worse. Once you have an official diagnosis they will evaluate the situation and figure out if medication is needed or if you would be a good candidate for epidural injections, massage, acupuncture, etc. Just because these doctors are in the business of managing pain does not mean you will get narcotic pain medicine.

pain meds are not usually prescribed by them, thats your dr or specialists job. pain management is done usually alongside drug therapy, the clinic is more psychological n learning to gain mind over matter. at 1st i thought the pain man clinic was trying to say my pain was in my mind, but it aint true. they teach you how to 'not listen' to my pain, to not let it fill my brain. you have to work hard and apply yourself. i did so well on my course, i was used as a case study.
