no, sports are things people actually like to watch and would pay money to do so, not people playing instruments, which is music

I totally agree with you. It does take a lot of work and determination to do it. I think maybe that's why the highschool I went to, you could letter in band because of all the things we had to do outside of marching in parades and football games. Hey and I even earned my letter my JR year in highschool.

not really, it may be physically demanding but that doesn't mean it's a sport

Heck yes. For anyone who hasn't been to band camp, the average member loses fifteen pounds. No joke. I lost 17 after 2 weeks and got rid of all my winter blubber =] Its so physically demanding, because you have to basically run and use up all your air on playing your instrument, not to mention carrying it. Well, I'm in the guard so we work even harder, but my instrument friends do just as much work as a football player. We even have an ex footballer and he says that its nothing compared to band.

technically no.

but i think it is an extreme sport.. ha rain or shine you are expected to march and play your instrument at the same time! sometimes marching backwards, trusting that the people behind you aren't going to fall and cause a chain reaction.. that's some multitasking! and you have no life outside of band during football season really.. ha because you are always with them. practicing, at sectionals, or games.. most people don't realize that it takes alot to be in a marching band..

It's definitely a sport! I had this argument with my friend yesterday who thought that band was lame. We work our butts off on the field running from spot to spot and blowing into our instruments like there's no tomorrow! Our band director always says that we get seven minutes to get water and then we get like four minutes. =P People that say marching isn't a sport need to get their heads checked. Wimps. XD

lol People that have never been in it would say no. But its basically combining band and sports lol How many people would have an easy time remembering where to go, what size steps to take, how many steps you have to get there, roll their feet, keep the correct posture while playing the music by memory exactly how it is written including, right notes (lol), articulation and dynamics, breath control (honestly give most athletes a restricted amount of air and see how they like it) all while making it look like the most simple thing you have ever done along with the emotion to back up the music? Oh and we compete with scores, places and everything.
Yeah its a sport lol no matter what anyone else says

YES! Well for me at least lol i play the bari sax which weighs 20 pounds. Our band camps suck to, it consists of 2 weeks every day except Sunday, 12 hours a day and the first week is pretty much conditioning. But we are the number 1 band in Oregon so we have to work for it. It's kinda funny because we there is aaa, aa and open division which is the highest. We are in open and have a band of 120 people which is small for an aa division band especially when we are competing against people with 240+ people. I think its a sport, what else would it be? Also during the season and school we have 9 hours of practice a week.
